Support to COMIFAC during UNFCCC COP21 Climate Negotiations

The ten member states of COMIFAC: Burundi, Cameroon, DRC, Rep of Congo, Gabon, Central Africa Rep, Rwanda, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Sao Tome and Principe participated actively during the UNFCCC COP21. Our contribution was to conduct research and provide technical advice with the view to facilitate the integration of the views and interest of COMIFAC countries especially REDD+, forest, and other related issues into the Paris Agreement and decisions. We prepared and presented technical notes, position papers, synthesis on INDC, forest, REDD+, LULUCF, land, Non-Carbon Benefits to COMIFAC Climate Focal Points and Ministers before and during the negotiations in Paris. Experts from FOKABS were given the mandate to represent COMIFAC on highly technical discussions especially during late and all night negotiations. FOKABS, on behalf of COMIFAC, organised several bilateral meetings with other parties and groups and also liaised with the African Group (AGN) and the Coalition for Rainforest Nations (CfRN) to work out common positions on several issues.
